Happy #ZeroWasteWednesday! We’re teaming up with our partner Zero Waste Scotland to showcase examples of how people can benefit from sustainable opportunities in their local area.
We’re celebrating a brilliant local initiative making a real difference in both sustainability and community wellbeing — the Dundee West End Community Fridge, run by Transition Dundee.
This fridge isn’t just about food—it’s about waste reduction, dignity, and community care. By redistributing surplus food from supermarkets, businesses, and households, it keeps perfectly good food out of the bin and puts it into the hands of those who can use it.
The initiative:
– Operates on a Pay As You Feel basis – no pressure, just support.
– Helps tackle the stigma around food poverty by focusing on preventing food waste.
– Tools like ‘TooGoodToGo’ make it easier for anyone to join the mission.
– Links to broader support networks, showing how food can be the first step toward deeper community connection.
Whether you’re in Dundee or beyond, projects like this remind us that reducing waste can also strengthen communities.
