Opportunity: Alexandria BID Co-ordinator

Alexandria Traders have been awarded funding by the Scottish Government to develop a Business Improvement District (BID) in Alexandria. An individual experienced in developing and providing direct support and/or services to businesses is sought to fill this post.

The role of the post holder will be to deliver the BID programme of work, following due process; and develop a BID Business Plan that local and national businesses and stakeholders will vote positively for in a postal ballot scheduled to be held in October/November 2024. The Alexandria BID will be centred around the Main Street.

The preferred candidate will have frontline experience of managing operations, have a high level of communication and negotiation skills and have driven a customer service culture. You will be an effective communicator with a real passion for making things happen. This fixed term post will require you to work closely with stakeholders at all levels, e.g. the Council, the Police, the BID Steering Group and Improvement Districts Scotland, the national organisation for BIDs in Scotland.

BIDs are a major economic growth model in Scotland. Originating in Canada, their primary aim is to give the business community greater influence in their town, to determine projects that they consider will improve their trading environment and which they will ultimately manage and deliver through the formation of a BID Company. BID projects seek to improve footfall, investment and help improve the economic, environmental and social vibrancy of an area.

You will lead a major consultation exercise to establish the issues and concerns and priorities of the business community, develop the BID Proposal and Business Plan, lead the ballot campaign and all other phases of the BID programme of work to secure a positive ballot result and the creation of a Business Improvement District. You will need to be the front face of the project and will need to be 100% committed to the process.

You will be self-motivated, task orientated with a passion to succeed. You will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills, tact and diplomacy, project management experience and ideally have an insight into marketing. You will need to juggle a variety of tasks and work well under pressure. The post will be demanding but varied, with scope for personal development. This is a new and exciting development in Alexandria to secure a strong future but it is not a job for the fainthearted. For the successful applicant there is an excellent support network available throughout the entire process right up to and beyond the ballot.

We can offer flexible working hours and if successful, the opportunity to develop your career in this new and expanding field.
