Discover Lanark is about more than retail, it’s about embracing all parts of the town’s economy. It’s about delivering benefits to all the town’s businesses and crucially, it’s about giving businesses of all sizes a uniformed voice.

Recently, the Lanark Business community backed a five-year BID. A BID is an initiative where businesses work in partnership with Local Authorities to develop their town.  Discover Lanark plan to use the levies paid plus grants and other funding streams to support a number of projects, including improving how Lanark is presented to locals and visitors, putting successful businesses at the heart of Lanark’s community and working together to capitalise on the level of tourism the town enjoys.

Lanark’s 5-year BID aims to deliver improvement through four main pillars:

  • Appearance & Access – Improving how Lanark is presented to locals and visitors
  • Business – Putting successful businesses at the heart of Lanark’s community
  • Community – Businesses and community working together for a better Lanark
  • Lanark and New Lanark – working together to capitalise on tourism

Your New Role

Discover Lanark are now looking for a self-starting, motivated individual with the ability to mange the deliver of the Lanark Bid, meeting business plan target, and bringing in fresh ideas. The successful candidate, who will form part of the wider BID Team will be required to manage staff, consultants and contractors to ensure appropriate levels of capacity and skills are available to ensure the delivery of projects in line with the business plan targets for the BID.

This exciting role will require the successful candidate to effectively manage relationships with many different stakeholders, from private sector business owners to local organisations and public agencies. The role involves acting as the first point of contact for media. The successful candidate will also co-ordinate and manage marketing, promotional and associated events with the assistance (where necessary) of creative, design & marketing agencies to maximise impacts and outcomes. The ideal candidate will ensure that the BID is promoted positively and that the reputation of both the Company and Lanark are maintained to the highest quality.

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate will have similar experience in event planning, marketing, event management or brand management, ideally in a BID. Demonstratable project management experience is essential. Excellent networking and relationship management skills are needed to work with a diverse set of partners. The candidate must be willing and able to travel independently or access reliable transport in order to carry out the travelling requirements of the post.

As the candidate will be required to liaise with the media, experience of dealing with the media and press is desirable. Knowledge about both the private and public sector is essential, and an awareness of Scottish government and local authority economic development policy would be beneficial. Above all, we are looking for someone with passion and commitment to understanding and helping to solve community issues.

What we can offer

We can offer the successful will receive a salary of circa £35,000 depending on experience. There is also scope for performance based financial incentives.  The successful candidate will have 25 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays.
