Technology solutions provider Vicinity is showcasing the power of harnessing digital innovation to deliver impactful solutions for local businesses and services.
By adopting a data-driven approach, Vicinity is helping communities thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape through the use of innovative technologies and digital platforms.

In a previous blog for Scotland’s Towns Partnership, Vicinity CEO Henry Jinman highlighted the crucial role data plays in driving success for Scotland’s towns. He emphasised how adopting a data-driven approach can unlock new opportunities for local economies by identifying trends, understanding customer behaviour, and tailoring offerings to meet community needs.
This innovative mindset was put into action during the pilot ‘town trail’ scheme, launched in August 2024

as part of Scotland Loves Local Week. Vicinity teamed up with BIDs to introduce digital trails in the towns of Alloa, Kirkintilloch, and Linlithgow, each highlighting the unique features of their respective town centres. These digital trails were hosted on the LoyalFree app, aiming to increase footfall and promote the Scotland Loves Local campaign’s message of supporting local businesses and thinking local first.
Designed to appeal to both locals and visitors, the trails showcased the best of each town’s food, drink, and hospitality sectors. By using Vicinity’s advanced technology, these interactive experiences encouraged users to explore their communities while supporting local businesses, helping to lock in spend in communities.
To date, over 1,000 town trails have been hosted on Vicinity’s platform, generating more than 1.1 million user interactions. This highlights the versatility and impact of Vicinity’s technology, offering communities an engaging and accessible way to discover local businesses and services. The success of these digital trails demonstrates how technology can foster a stronger connection between people and their local areas.
As part of its commitment to supporting local communities, Vicinity is also sponsoring the 2024 Scotland Loves Local ‘Town of the Year’ Award, celebrating towns that exemplify the spirit of local resilience and innovation.
By integrating technology into the heart of local economies, Vicinity is helping towns across Scotland to thrive in the digital age.
