Falkirk recognised as a digital trailblazer in National Awards

Falkirk’s ambitions to become a leading digital town have received national recognition, with Falkirk Delivers shortlisted for the Connectivity Award at the Let’s Celebrate Towns Awards — a UK-wide initiative led by Barclaycard in partnership with the British Retail Consortium.

The submission, titled “Ultrafast Broadband Rollout”, highlighted Falkirk Delivers’ strategic investment in digital infrastructure as part of its broader vision to create a digitally resilient and future-ready town centre. In partnership with local provider 802 Works, the project delivered gigabit-capable full fibre broadband across the town centre, tackling long-standing connectivity challenges and opening the door to a smarter, more connected local economy.

This work has been a cornerstone of Falkirk’s digital evolution. By securing an exclusive agreement with 802 Works, Falkirk Delivers ensured BID member businesses could access ultrafast broadband at a significantly reduced rate — collectively saving over £50,000 in broadband costs over the next two years. These savings represent more than just financial relief; they enable local traders to reinvest in growth, innovation, and digital tools.

However, infrastructure was only the beginning. Falkirk Delivers also launched a dedicated programme of digital skills support, including free workshops covering key areas such as online marketing, e-commerce, cloud platforms, and social media. This holistic approach empowered businesses not only to connect, but to compete in a digital-first economy.

Elaine Grant, Manager of Falkirk Delivers, attended the awards reception at the House of Lords on 16 July 2025, joined by Falkirk MP Euan Stainbank, as the achievements of shortlisted towns were formally celebrated.

Although we are naturally disappointed not to have won, we are absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted,” said Elaine.

“To be recognised at a national level for our digital connectivity work shows that Falkirk is not just keeping up — we’re leading the way in building a smart, inclusive, and tech-enabled town centre.”

With hundreds of entries submitted from towns across the UK, Falkirk’s selection as a finalist signals growing recognition of its digital leadership. It marks a major milestone in the town’s journey toward becoming a connected, innovative hub — one where local businesses can thrive in a technology-driven world.
