Lanark.co.uk – Discover Lanark has successfully launched a new outdoor space in the heart of Lanark town centre to support the town’s cafes and takeaways.
The Space @Hyndford Place, which opened on Monday 10th August, is an outdoor seating area set up to support hospitality businesses currently coping with the impact of social distancing.
Visitors can buy their food and non alcoholic drinks at any of the town’s cafes, takeaways and food businesses, and then enjoy a safe socially distanced sit down in the temporarily pedestrianised space.
Antonia Pompa, Discover Lanark Manager said “We are delighted with the initial response to The Space @Hyndford Place. It has proved very popular and there has been a warm friendly atmosphere around the town. We have tried to make the space fun and welcoming with large parasols and trees giving it an almost continental feel.”
“The COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated speedy and flexible responses from all organisations as we work out how to jumpstart the economy and support our town’s businesses. The hospitality industry has been particularly hard hit. Many of our small cafes and food businesses lack adequate space to trade profitably while maintaining social distancing.”
“The idea behind pedestrianising Hyndford Place has been to create a safe and attractive outdoor space in the heart of the town where local people can sit and socialise safely whilst enjoying food and light refreshments from any of the town’s cafes and takeaways.”
The Space @Hyndford Place will be in place until Saturday 26 September.
