Young Scot and Scotland’s Towns Partnership are supporting young people to make the most of their local town centre.
Young Scot and Scotland’s Towns Partnership are creating more reasons for young people visit their local high streets by connecting them with local businesses.
The project is inspired by a successful partnership with Paisley First Business Improvement District (BID). As part of that project, Young Scot ran ‘shopping local’ content on its website and social media channels. This encouraged local young people to use their Young Scot National Entitlement Cards to access 15 new discounts at businesses in Paisley town centre.
Young Scot and Paisley First created more opportunities for young people to engage with their local area and this is increasing footfall within the town centre. The new discounts also created a way for local businesses to show that they welcome young people, as well as supporting young people by helping them to make their money go further.
Together, Young Scot and Scotland’s Town Partnership intend to partner with BIDs across Scotland, to engage their business communities and to develop discounts and opportunities that benefit young people and the local community alike.

Phil Prentice, Chief Officer of Scotland’s Towns Partnership and National Project Director of Scotland’s Improvement Districts, said: “This partnership seeks to further develop Young Scot’s work to encourage young people to make the most of their local town centre and make their money go further while enjoying time in their local communities. We will also use this relationship to establish how young people view the futures of their towns and high streets.
I would recommend all Improvement Districts and other local business organisations to engage with Young Scot to develop similar initiatives in their town or city district”.
